At the tender age of 4, Barry was introduced to the game of tennis by his father in the small East African nation of Burundi. As is the same in most places in the world, football was by far the most popular sport, capturing young Barry’s heart, with tennis being secondary. However, 10 years later, after moving to Ottawa, he discovered his love for soccer being superseded by his love and passion for tennis.

This rediscovered passion for the sport has led him on a journey to master his craft and play tennis at the professional level. This love has also propelled him to become a lifelong student of the game, finding an interest in teaching what he has learned along the way. Now, his experiences teaching is what fulfils him, being able to inspire future generations and instil a love for the sport in their hearts, just like previous generations of coaches did for him. While remaining to chase his dreams of playing professional tennis, he now also has a secondary goal of paying it forward through coaching.
